California's in her Rear-View Mirror

Bonnie and Carlos came over to say goodbye on Wednesday, the 23rd, a half-hour after they were supposed to (9:30), and it was a very stilted and awkward visit.  They left after about 40 minutes or so.  Erica commented on how Bonnie wouldn't look her in the eye, which, when I thought about it, was true. They seemed put out that I asked Carlos to front the rest of the moving costs and that I would then send him a check.  She's got everything all planned - they'll take five days to drive, then settle in.  She's supposed to be transferring to a J Jill store close by their place, although with the way she's been lying lately that's open to question.

Here's what happened just prior to the move.

Bonnie was gone all day Tuesday (didn’t do a damn thing about packing other than to throw out, Seal thinks, about four trash bags full of clothes).  Seal stopped her from throwing out her RALPH LAUREN comforter and took it to the thrift store.

Seal thinks she was with Moises all Tuesday. Apparently she told him she was leaving Wednesday so that he wouldn’t come around when Carlos was there. Tuesday night she told Seal that she loved Moises. She asked Seal whether she thought that she (Bonnie) was making a “big mistake” by moving back East. Seal told her that only she (Bonnie) could be the judge of that.

Well, Wednesday came and her room was still a mess, and MOISES showed up on Wednesday morning.  They stayed outside talking and then Bonnie went to pick Carlos up at the airport (his plane arrived at 10:30).  They came back and the movers had arrived; Carlos wound up packing all of Bonnie’s stuff for them, plus some extra boxes that they shipped later on.  Carlos cleaned, packed, and did a lot of stuff; Bonnie disappeared again, and Seal thinks she went to see Moises.

They were supposed to stay over at Seal's on an air mattress.  As it turns out, they stayed at a hotel.  While I thought that it was because her delusions of grandeur regarding air mattresses, another theory was advanced by Juli:  that she was afraid Moises was going to show up.  Makes sense to me.  Before she left, Bonnie gave Seal $100 to clean her room, because she “didn’t have time”.

So they started late, and now, as of last night (Tuesday, February 28th), they are about 500 miles from home.  The only reason I know this is that I am following their progress on Carlos' Facebook page.  Have not heard a word from Bonnie at all, except when I texted her about the remainder of the moving costs ($311), and asked her to reply to the email with her acceptance.  I also gave her a ration about the lock and keys for the ill-fated car cover (should have known that she wouldn't/couldn't deal with it); she had brought over a padlock and keys that wouldn't fit the padlock, thinking (really?) that they would solve the problem.  I texted her about it and she was frazzled, but gee, too bad.

Seal has sold Bonnie’s books back to the second hand bookstore at PCC, and got $42 for them. She’s also taken more than a few things to the thrift store, rescued from the trash pile.

Bonnie had told me at the lunch we'd had on Tuesday that she would be coming out within a month or so to visit her orthodontist, to assess whether she needed jaw surgery.  I didn't comment, didn't offer our house as a place to stay, nothing.  Then Seal happened to mention that Bonnie had told her that she was coming out within the same time period to pick up a friend's two toddlers and take them back to New Jersey for a week. Whether either happens, it's fine with me, because she's not staying with us.

Erica has said that, when Bonnie’s move doesn’t work out and she realizes she’s made a mistake, that we will be blamed for it. I don’t doubt it; we got blamed for forcing her out here, and we’ll be blamed for forcing her to go back.
